Phalaenopsis tetraspsis var. alba

Phalaenopsis tetraspis (Rchb.f., 1870) belongs to the genus described by Blume (1825) and has about 60 species. These are native to Southeast Asia but extend from the mountains of the Himalayas to the Philippines and northern Australian islands. This genus consists of epiphytic plants and occasionally litophic, in shady environment. In nature they are found up the treetops, protected from direct sunlight. The habitats have average temperatures and relatively high humidity levels but they also fit for human temperatures. P. tetraspsis is native to Indonesia and can be sighted in mangroves along the rivers in northwest Sumatra. This plant has monopodial growth, with annual apical growth of one or two leaves. The leaves are alternate, thick, elliptical in shape. Normally, four to five leaves remain on the plant as the oldest fall. The flower stalks arise in stem segments, between the outer leaves, boasting multiple flowers. In this alba variation, the flowers are totally white.
