Renanthera monachica Ames 1915 is a Philippine species from the island of Luzon at elevations up to 500 meters.  The genus Renanthera currently consists of 22 species and is closely related to Arachnis and Vandopsis with its climbing growth habit in which roots grow along the stem. The size of the plants varies from approximately 50 cm (e.g. R. monachica) and up to 4 meters (e.g. R. storiei) and produce branched inflorescences  containing numerous flowers ranging in color from yellow and orange to red with large lateral sepals.

R. monachica is a medium sized epiphyte, warm to hot growing with a long stem carrying many distichous, ligulate, unequaly and obtusely bilobed apically, coriaceous leaves. It blooms on an axillary, suberect, simple, 50 cm long, laxly racemose inflorescence with many (6 to 30), non-fragrant, long-lasting flowers. It grows best in a wood slat basket with little or no medium.
