Sophronitis brevipedunculata

Sophronitis brevipedunculata [Cogn.] Fowlie 1972 - The genus Sophronitis is composed of 9 known species, with the common feature being all kinds of small (from the Greek, sophron = modest), with approximately 10 cm, with grouped pseudobulbs. They have short, ovoid, densely clustered pseudobulbs along the rhizome, in which grows a single, or rarely two, apical, erect, fleshy, gray-green leaves. The flower has a trilobed lip and a spur adnate to the ovary. S. brevipedunculata is native to Brazil in cool mountain habitats where it grows on trees or on rocks. It is found growing from 1220 to 2000 meters in elevation. The plants are watered by cloudy mists and nightly dews. The flowers are light red. The short flower spike carries 1-3 flowers with 4-7.5 cm, that bloom in late fall (South Hemisphere). In culture, can be mounted on treefern slab or a small pot, with a well-drained media in intermediate temperature.
